Halloween
Do you celebrate Halloween also known as hallows eve? Halloween is a world wide holiday that most people celebrate but there are people that don’t celebrate Halloween. This essay will explain facts about Halloween.
Are you afraid of ghosts? If you are here’s a great fact for you. Did you know that wearing costumes originated from trying to hide from ghosts and spirits. In the Celtic times people would
wear masks when they left there houses, to try and fool other spirits or ghost, that they were a ghost or spirits as well. They would also leave food outside to stop ghost or spirits from coming into there houses. What do think of jack-o-lanterns?
Did you know that jack-o-lanterns were originally carved into turnips. Jack-o-lanterns are called jack-o-lanterns because of ,a man named jack who had tricked the devil but when jack died the devil cursed him and forced him to roam the earth as a strip with only a burning coal to light his way, As Jack was roaming around he put the burning coal in a craved turnip. But after immigration happen and the jack-o-lantern transferred to America since the pumpkin was more available the changed to from a craved turnip to a craved pumpkin.
What’s the history of Halloween do you know? Well if you don’t read on to find out. Though most people find Halloween a scary holiday but it actually started of from a lot of romance. Apple bobbing originate from people try to see if they would get married the first person the get the apple without there hands would be married. People would also hang wet sheets in front of fires to see there future husband or young woman would peel an apple in one long strip and throw it over there shoulder it should of landed in the first letter of there future husband’s name. But people would also bake Halloween cakes with a ring and a thimble if you got the slice with the ring you would be married within the year if you the the slice with the thimble you would be unlucky in love.
So Halloween is a scary holiday in some ways but not in others so chose to celebrate Halloween this year or the next. It’s your life so you chose yes or no?
