Fencing

The Persians and Greeks used fencing for them to practice the skills that they had with small swords. Ancient Egyptians competed in fencing many years ago. Fencing was invented in 1190 B.C.

Today at the modern day Olympics there are many changes from the ancient times. The first change is that in the olden days there were no Olympics in the ancient times. This is also a change it is that there are light that go on when you score a point and a buzzer goes on as well to start and finish the round.

Competing in fencing means that you are fit and determined to do your best. The rules are:that you have to touch them anywhere on there body but this is only with the epee. It's not as easy as it looks you know and the epee is longer and heavier than the foil.

Pierre de Coubertin

After a gap of hundred years the Olympics returned to Athens in 1896. The reason behind the re-creation of the Olympic was because of one man Pierre de Coubertin. He admired the Greek ideals of fitness and sporting competitiveness amongst different communities and he hoped the modern Olympics would bring countries closer together.

THE FIRST OLYMPICS

The Olympics of 1896 in Athens in Greece had 14 countries taking part with most of the athletes from Greece. This first modern Olympics was the largest meeting of international competitors that had ever occurred. The next Olympics held in Paris four years later was the first to allow women competitors this time the Olympics was part of a much bigger event and lasted several months.

Usain Bolt

As Usain Bolt crosses the finish line, he felt extremely excited and had a bunch of emotions. I really really really think that he felt astonished to win the gold medal for his country, Jamaica and for his family and also for his friends.

Olympic flame.

... ceremony-olympic flame.jpg
The ancient Greeks started the Tradition of having an Olympic flame. In Olympia a sacred flame is lit by the sun's rays and stays alight until the games have ended. The flame symbolized a request for protection from Zeus and the athletes’ struggles for victory.

The modern flame symbolizes the light of the spirit, Knowledge and life. To this day, The torch is still lit in Olympia in Greece then carried by a relay team, passing runner to runner until it reaches the host-city of the games. There, The cauldron will be lit and stay alight until the closing ceremony.

Ancient Olympics

The Olympics begin over 2 and a half thousand years ago in ancient Greece in those days Greece was made up of several different states including Athens, Sparta and Corinth and they were often at war at each other. But when the games were on they held a truse. This great event was held in a place called Olympia this is why the games are called the Olympics. They a held once every four years of honour of Zeus the god of all the gods. Eventually the ancient Olympic were abolished by the roman Emperor Theodosus the first who was a christian and didn't like the games because there were dedicated to a pagan god. But the Olympics were always remeber as a symbol of human achievement and peace.

My geometry garden by amira

In my garden my flowers have rotation symmetry.

This means that when you rotate your flowers they are the same on each which means it’s a order.

In my garden my butterfly has reflective symmetry.

This means that if you have or had a butterfly the patterns on it’s wings would be the same.

In my garden my pathway shows tessellation.

To make my pathway I used tessellation

This means that when you have heaps of the same shapes and you put them together they have no gaps in between them.

6 Thinking Hats by Amira

6 Thinking Hats
How I feel about my artwork or the whole process.
Creating my artwork made me feel proud and frustrated because I did lots of mistakes but I also managed to fix my mistakes.   Going through the process was so frustrating and it made me feel angry because the process took so long it was so boring.
What did I enjoy most of all or what was the best thing about my painting.
The most interesting thing i enjoyed was the peace and quiet while the pavillon painted because it was so super quiet it’s never this quiet in the pavillon. I also enjoy the drawing my picture it might not the same as on my topic book but it still kinda looks the same it’s similar.
What did I find hard or I didn’t like.
What i didn’t like about my picture was the paint i used too much of one color and not enough of the other colors.   When i noticed that was when we were taking the last picture of them i just then did not like it.
How can I do my art better next time?
I should not use so much purple and not enough of yellow, green, pink and orange.   Next time i paint i well wait for the wet paint to dry then I well not paint near or on it.
What was the most interesting thing I did or my friends did.
The most interesting thing I did was draw cloud windows and draw clouds a sun and stars it is interesting and so super wired.     And also I did only two trees out of the whole entire picture the wired.
What did I learn most about?
I learnt that you should never paint when you are going to paint near paint that is wet it is bad because it looks yucky when it’s dry. I have also that painting doesn’t take short period of time.

Tamarereti and the stars

In the beginning all that the sky had was no stars all that the sky was a blank piece of dark black. The villages were scared of going out fishing at night  because of the Taniwha anyone who was anywhere near the part of where the Taniwha lived he would gobble them up.

As that happened there was a boy who lived on the other side of lake Taupo. His name is Tamarereti in the morning he awoke he felt hungry he looked in his kete it was empty.

So Tamarereti went out fishing he caught 3 large fish he put the fish in his kete. He thought that there was enough time for the wind to pick up and to have a sleep. He woke up many hours later to his surprise the wind picked up and blow his waka to the other side of Lake Taupo.

Tamarereti knows that night was falling but his stomach was still empty so Tamarereti made a fire, cooked his fish as he ate his kai out of the corner of his eye he saw some glistening pebbles. He thought that if he put the pebbles in his waka he would be safe so he put as many pebbles in his waka as the wind blow his waka to the middle of the lake (That’s where the Taniwha actually lives). As he went over the middle of the lake.

He threw the glistening pebbles in the sky.
He was safe. When he got home he fall straight to sleep after a huge day.

In the morning Tamarereti woke up to have visitor Ranginui the god of the sky.Tamarereti thought that Ranginui was going to say ‘’you ruined my black sky’’.But Ranginui did not he said "Tena koe Tamarereti. You have made the world more safe and you have made the sky more beautiful’’.

The end.

The frog

The slimy green frog outstretched his tongue to catch his prey. The frog was gripping onto the tree watching his prey floated on a leaf with his big wide eyes. As the small cricket floated on the leaf he was scared for his life.

The Blob

The blob.jpg
One day by a lake there lived a very rich family and in this family there is a mom, dad, 12 sisters
and  there are 11 brothers.
Then one day one of the sisters said to the family that she used a bit of the money to buy the blob. They froze in horror because they thought that the blob was a monster. But then she said that the blob isn't a monster it's this thing that someone sits on the end then someone jumps on the other side and the person on the end gets launched in the air then the will land in the water.

The sister said “The blob is going to land on the lake at 4.00” the family holled out “yay”.

The older sister went first. She jumped on the blob she crawled to the end. Someone jumped and sent her flying through the air like a bird. Splash! She made a huge splash. “That was fun”.

Rollercoster

Amira rollercost.jpg
Rollercosters are truly my worst nightmare, I couldn’t believe I was here. This could all end up in disaster. I had waited ages for this moment to arrive, but now it was here,I wanted to wish it a away again.

Listening to the screaming from the people in front of me,turned my stomach. There are butterflies in my stomach I said quietly. Woosh the cars sped past me,filled with screaming people.

Roaring and soaring through the sky we tumbled and twisted. Whose dumb idea was this?

The noise of the track deafened my screams.

Lost in the Forest

IMG_0335.JPG

On a lonely thorny path in a creepy, cold, windy forest, a family played rugby. By mistake, Rosie’s sister kicked the ball too far passed the goal. Rosie said “I will go and find the ball.” So she went to look for the ball  She was so busy trying to find the shiny ball, that she didn’t notice she was lost.
As Rosie walked, she became scared. Standing in front of her was a triple headed monster eating a deer. The monster saw her, he licked his lips and said “yum”.
She ran as fast as she could, because in one step the huge monster caught up to her. Just before the monster picked her up to be eaten she jumped in a hole so that she wouldn’t be eaten.
The monster looked everywhere but he could not find her so he walked away. Rosie jumped as high as she could. She grabbed a branch and pulled herself out of the hole. She heard her family’s voices, Rosie was going to be saved afterall. So she ran to her family and never ever went back to that place again.

Waitangi Day

On the 6th of February crowds gather. As the gather they look like a sea of people. As they sit down they look out at the majestic view and the kapa haka performances begin.
